An ill-fated reality is that individuals are willing to lap up controversy. Some people exploit on this simply to make a profit while not mistakenly believing any of the doubtful words they spew, whereas others are so much gone they write their manuscripts on previously used tin foil hats. Wishart’s screed against environmentalists and cherry-picking of the science literature is indicative of the latter case. After several chapters of not accurately engaging in the expert literature but usually relying on quotes and misquotes from skeptic sites, he ends his diatribe with an whole chapter dedicated to one individual and the greatest conspiracy made since 9/11 Truthers. Chapter 5 is entirely devoted to ‘dismantling’ the ‘icons’ of anthropogenic global warming, but his poor research (or google searching or however he did it) shines through. He does not engage the World Glacier Monitoring Service 2008 report, reflexively dismissing the evidence of anthropogenic glacier slowly melting. He belittles the experts who have been studying the habitat and behaviors of polar bears in the Arctic region, suggesting erroneously that there is no harm to the bulk of the population. He believes several new years of not-so-high temperatures show a stronger cyclical type of international climate while completely ignoring that AGW is based on averages spanning over several thousands of years. The list grows on and on… His index is a textbook example of someone who widely read titles and abstracts but neglected to actually read the subject of the papers, and he commonly used papers to support one of his positions, neglecting to note that the very same paper opposed or successfully argued against his very point. The highlight of his book is the Green movement’s conspiracy to turn everyone into cannibals and slaves to a ‘New World Order’, as well as an unhealthy fetish toward George Soros. My irony meter disclosed when the author attempts to deflate sensationalism concerning AGW, but subsequently goes on to provide very alarmist-style words of the impending Green fascist-socialist-Nazi state the ‘collective’ is currently developing. Kudos for effectively making me laugh at what was mostly garbage.
