I went to look at this book with an honest mind, although I am very skeptical of the claims that global warming (a very new phenomenon) are do to CO2 emissions. The moment I officially opened I finally saw that it is nothing more than a cruel joke, a vehicle for helping Al Gore. Although it is over 300 pages in length, there is actually very little text and information. The book is usually filled with nice, travelogue photos of strange places, cuddly polar bears and various “rare species”, and many, many pictures of Al, Tipper and family in the wilds. The few graphs which allegedly show insidious warming of the earth are presented in a heavily distorted way with small changes enormously magnified, which is a prominent method of distrorting technical data. The book presents a graph allegedly showing the “average heat of the earth” for the last 1000 years and how it is supposedly “much warmer” today than it was at any time during that period. However, chronological records from the basic element of this period prove that Europe, particularly northern Europe was much warmer that it is today. That is when the Vikings eventually settled Iceland, GREENland (which was apparently GREEN then, unlike today) and northern Canada. They were forced to abandon many of their settlements when the temperatures cooled in the 14th century. Of course, there is the well-known problem for Gore and the rest who are trying to frighten everyone that the world COOLED OFF between the 1930’s and 1970’s still thought the quantity of CO2 emissions skyrocketed. The book goes to claim that some recent devastating Hurricanes like Katrina are due to “global warming” although hurricanes are known for centuries to increase and decrease in a cyclic pattern. Global temperatures have greatly increased in new years, but there is NO proof this is due to human CO2 emissions. The climate has widely varied greatly throughout history, long before mankind had any major effect on the environment. Thirty years ago some scientists were trying to frighten everyone into mistakenly thinking a recent ice age was in the offing! Another reviewer pointed out that Michael Crichton’s book “State of Fear” which attacks the scaremonger Gore and the rest are doing actually has far more information than this silly book does. Stay clear of “science propagandists” and keep an honest mind when currently investigating this sensitive subject.
