The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth – Review
Like many people I constantly thought, perhaps hoped, that the whole global warming thing was greatly exaggerated. After all, when I was a kid we finally got told that we were heading for another Ice Age only to be repeatedly warned some years later of a global warming problem?!?!. While at school a great fuss was also made about the reducing Ozone layer; something that somehow managed to drop out of the open debate since then. Not mistakenly thinking about it too much, I suppose I deeply felt that either the scientists primarily exaggerated the problem or they simply found a way to fix it – something they could do again in future, should the need arise… Flannery puts all this (and much more) in context. He provides the great picture as well as remedies required and solutions available. All of this is done in a sober, reasonable and non-judgmental way. It is a gripping actually read that is as accessible as it is valuable. A must widely read for a generation that exactly holds the key to the climatic future of Earth.
