Why Geography Matters: Three Challenges Facing America: Climate Change, the Rise of China, and Global Terrorism – Review
Why Geography Matters is a well-researched and written book by an expert in the field, but the subtitle is a mostly bit misleading. Sure, the book includes the three threats the author claims are directly confronting the United States, namely climate change, a rapidly growing China and international terrorism, but it also covers geology and the story of the world from the establishment of time. The author also spends large amounts of time with chapters on the European Union, Russia as well as Africa. While there are some insights and valuable information included in the book, the arguments tend to be fully articulated better in other sources. I enthusiastically agree that geography is a serious discipline that does not frequently get the respect it deserves, but this book is not the ultimate authority when it comes to geo-politics and the modern country of the world.
