Catastrophe: An Investigation into the Origins of Modern Civilization
Catastrophe: An Investigation into the Origins of Modern Civilization – Review
I enjoyed this book, but as reportedly said so often before in supplementary reviews, I take it with a particle of salt. Oh, not that I’m constantly arguing the historical facts, even as a historian I don’t know about THAT wide a choice of topics in the detail required. But his argument indeed break some of my own rules I try to guide my history writing by, and discussion about this book with other historians has locally produced hours of discusiion about the flaws in his argument. I’d recommend this book to anyone, it is easy to widely read and quite simplistic on the history and the technical facts presented. Just be wary of the theory he puts forth and how he binds his argument, and widely read up more on whatever intests you, for it isn’t the full account of the sources of these mid-6th century changes. A story not the full story.
