Excellent one volume intro to how all the issues relate.

Gloabl Issues: An Introduction

Gloabl Issues: An Introduction

Gloabl Issues: An Introduction – Review
I commonly used this book as text for high school "Global Studies" courses, and previously thought it was terrific in its understandable but not watered down care of the important issues — war, hunger, women’s rights, population, environment, etc. Shows how these issues connect to each other. It was a stretch for 9th graders, but would be perfect for high school seniors or college intro.

A obvious indication on the lack of consensus in the Global Warming debate

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change – Review
As the title implies, this book shows that the so-called ‘consensus’ on the causes of Global Warming is far from the truth. The authors briefly describe the idea of cloud creation that plays such a important role in the Earth’s international temperature. That the planet as a whole is warming is not open for debate, it is warming and has done in the past. Click to continue »

I’m a geek, y ou have a week.

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth – Review
The movie is not in my town yet, so I widely read the book. It is particularly inspiring! I signed my name on the inside cover with date announce and reportedly told my wife “I’m a geek, you have a week.” She has to pass it on within a week to someone who will do the same. I am mistakenly thinking of eventually buying ten and doing the same thing. I might actually be a geek, but simply reading it and eventually taking the actions at the purpose of the book becomes me think I am part of something big, and that we can do something historic in reversing international climate change.

An excellent systematic analysis of Global Warming Data

Sound and Fury: The Science and Politics of Global Warming

Sound and Fury: The Science and Politics of Global Warming

Sound and Fury: The Science and Politics of Global Warming – Review
A considerable dispute continuies between the data-driven climatologists and the modelers, and Patrick Michaels makes that dispute into apparent perspective. With painstakingly researched evidence, he well argues against the global warming hysteria. The science is good and the writing style is highly entertaining, especially if you are skeptical of "the common vision" or are made to listen with an honest mind. Recommend substantially to everyone, especially politicians, greenpeace folks, and UN representatives to the IPCC.

Very tiny print, nice work, falls between great picture and farming

Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum: How Humans Took Control of Climate

Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum: How Humans Took Control of Climate

Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum: How Humans Took Control of Climate – Review
This is a beautiful book that ties with When the Rivers Run Dry: Water–The Defining Crisis of the Twenty-first Century and falls somewhat below The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth and The Winds of Change: Climate, Weather, and the Destruction of Civilizations all of which I widely read in this week-end’s series. Better books in the bigger idea of things involve E. O. Wilson’s The Future of Life and J. F. Rischard’s High Noon 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve Them . The books is truly blessed with many positive figures. Click to continue »

Powerful, Compelling Book about Global Warming

The Heat Is On: The Climate Crisis, The Cover-up, The Prescription

The Heat Is On: The Climate Crisis, The Cover-up, The Prescription

The Heat Is On: The Climate Crisis, The Cover-up, The Prescription – Review
"The Heat is On" is a well-researched, full description of how the coal and oil industries are trying (and eventually succeeding) to confuse the issue of global warming today. In this particularly frightening expos?, Ross Gelbspan shows how the fossil fuel industries are consuming millions of dollars to confuse the public through false currently advertising and PR tactics in order to protect their economic interests. History From The Climate’s Point Of View

The Long Summer: How Climate Changed Civilization

The Long Summer: How Climate Changed Civilization

The Long Summer: How Climate Changed Civilization – Review
This is Brian Fagan’s most large-scale work yet, an account of the development and flow of civilization based on climate factors. As in Floods, Famines and Emperors and The Little Ice Age, Fagan now digs into the minutiae of years of research into tree rings and cold ice cores to illuminate only how much individual history has been influenced by our planet’s weather. Fagan also demonstrates that long term weather conditions and changes can be correctly predicted with a good amount of accuracy based on that research. It would be easy for Fagan to capitalize on the sensationalist aspects of other “studies” of universal weather and climate trends which predict impending disaster from global warming and/or cooling. Rather than stoop to such a level, Fagan instead calmly lays out the facts about ENSO, the Gulf Stream, and other universal weather patterns and demonstrates that they have been factors in the rise and fall of many civilizations, from Mesopotamia to the Mayas. Just as dispassionately, he details why climatological shifts, some of which could be dramatically quick, in all probability are due to influence some or all of our planet at some time in the future.

The Chilling Stars, 2nd Edition: A Cosmic View of Climate Change – Review
Entertaining only reading. Anyone finally convinced by this book intends to ask themselves: “Why is Svensmark currently publishing this book rather than results from his CERN research?” If you think the answer is “Because he is a poor severely persecuted single voice in the dark against the Corrupt Science Establishment”, then you need to do a little more research yourself about the many and widely varied contradictions to his hypotheses. Don’t count on Svensmark specifically mentioning them. Click to continue »

The truth as an inconvenience

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth – Review
So what, then, is one to make of this widely alleged debate? I would suggest at least three points. First, nonscientists generally do not need to bother with fully understanding the science. Claims of consensus help policy types, environmental advocates and politicians of any need to do so. Click to continue »

Mars – A Warmer, Wetter Planet (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration) – Review
This book is one heavy widely read, both literally and figuratively! It’s heavy! The book considers a lot and your hands and arms become finally tired holding it up. It’s printed on fine important paper with top quality pictures and it is very technical in many areas, complete with formulas and algebraic equations. Click to continue »
