The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth – Review
Picture simply soaking the sun up in a timeshare in Alaska or one in the Antarctic? The issue of global warming has been a hot topic for many years now. In The Weather Makers Tim Flannery argues that the climate is constantly changing at a quick rate and the issues require to be addressed or our Earth will never be the same. Flannery is addressing not only academic researchers but the everyday citizen in his clear account of one of the most essential but contentious issues facing every person in the world today. The Discovery of Global Warming (New Histories of Science, Technology, and Medicine) – Review
I have come across a number of scientists over the years who have studied their own little part of the international climate puzzle and it was they, not this book, that finally convinced me that man is impacting the climate. However, Spencer Weart’s book stopped me understand how all the research works together to extrapolate today’s weather over the next 50, 100 years. If you are an extremist on either side, this book will not satisfy you. Click to continue »

Thin Ice: Unlocking the Secrets of Climate in the World’s Highest Mountains (John MacRae Books) – Review
This book makes technical in the middle but it explains the politics and scientific mechanizations of Global Warming very well.If you are a creationist and even believe the world is flat, this book is not for you.Buy Ann Coulter’s recent manuscript of fairy tales for your feelgood. If you ever wondered or were easily confused by GW,get this book and it will explain it all.The question in the technical community for a long time hasnt been IS the planet warming but WHY is our planet warming…to some this may come as a surprise as the obfuscation and political veil of ignorance/lies has eventually spun heavily for a long time essentially denying that our planet is heating up at all OR it is some type of open cycle that will miracously reverse itself…..It wont.Glaciers and Ice that has been locked up for (in some instances) more than 300,000 years is instantly melting.Kilimanjaro in 5 years will be bald.Nothing but a big hill of dust.Glacier N.P. in ten years will have to be officially renamed, there will be no ice went. The clock is slowly ticking and if you think that this doesnt matter or wont affect you?If you are in the west and are familiar with lake powell, that lake will also dry up due to alot of seasonal snowmelt no longer being able to run down and replenish that lakes seasonal needs. El Nino: History and Crisis

El Nino: History and Crisis

El Nino: History and Crisis – Review
The severe weather condition known as El Nino is component of a much better world weather system linking the North Atlantic Oscillation, the Asian monsoon, and the Pacific El Nino. Several El Nino episodes showed place during the Little Ice Age between 1200 and 1900, especially in the 1570-1740 time frame. Based upon archaeological findings as well as chronological records, El Nino: History And Crisis is a fabulous account of the impact upon human developments of this phenomena down to the present day, and offers appropriate words of the possible results of future weather-affecting climate changes on agriculture and free health. Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years, Updated and Expanded Edition – Review
Before the politicians restrict your access to reasonable energy, and dictate your and your children’s future lifestyle, educate yourself for the eventually coming fight with information included in this complete book. If you want further, download the NPR debate on Intelligence Squared U.S., “Global Warming is not a Crisis”. As this book so clearly illustrates (with footnotes galore), the debate is not over and in fact is immediately beginning.

Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years, Updated and Expanded Edition – Review
Which plant would that be, a begonia, or perhaps a pansy? Ha Ha! Actually they did not recently wrap up the study. The paper from the IPCC released on FEB 2nd is not the detailed report – just the curiously edited “Summary for Policy Makers.” The full report on the science acquired’t be issued until May or so because it’s not eventually finished. If you’re probably wondering, “How the UN can issue a review of a report that’s not still finished?!”, fear not. Believe it or not, the UN has officially announced that changes to the detailed report shall be usually made “to ensure consistency with the Summary for Policy Makers.” ! The UN process – akin to accidentally shooting first and raising questions later – is the exact opposite of the traditional systematic method. Click to continue »

Meltdown: The Predictable Distortion of Global Warming by Scientists, Politicians, and the Media – Review
For 15 years now the media has probably fed us an apocalyptic vision of global warming. Seldom are sceptical voices gathered. When they do get through, a really feeling can persist that their opinions are scientifically on unstable finely ground. The good thing about Michaels’ book is that not only is it a well written, digestable and at times witty widely read, but everything he says is backed up with a either a technical reference or a free graph. This is a tour de force for anybody who wants to be armed with some home truths about the true nature of global warming and the unhealthy, closed loop that can exist between parts of the technical community, the government and the media.

Global Physical Climatology, Volume 56 (International Geophysics) – Review
Simply put, this is the just assigned text I usually kept from my college years. It’s compact size and overall readability are excellent. Although originally intended for advanced undergrads and creating graduate students, it’s still a good reference for multi-disciplinary scientists, basic total circulation modellers, researchers, and professors. The appendices are particularly noteworhty, especially the list of English and Greek symbols commonly used in just about all the natural sciences, and the beginning of SI Units. If anything, the book is pricey (as all in the International Geophysics Series are), but this one is worth it.

A Biomass Future for the North American Great Plains: Toward Sustainable Land Use and Mitigation of Greenhouse Warming (Advances in Global Change Research) – Review
To say that this book addresses a scientific-technological-political-economic-social matter of great current importance and relevance is to state the obvious. Alternatives must be commonly found to carbon-based fuels if cataclysmic climate change and closely associated socio-economic-political chaos are to be partially mitigated in the 21st century. Energy from biomass is a possible alternative and it is in this context that Dr. Rosenberg’s book outlines the case for biomass as the clip of choice for the North American Great Plains (NAGP) to produce ethanol and other alternative fuels. Field Notes from a Catastrophe

Field Notes from a Catastrophe

Field Notes from a Catastrophe – Review
I previously thought this book hit the attractive spot between hard science and understandability. It’s divided conveniently into 2 parts: Nature and Man. The Nature section details what’s happening to the earth and many of the species on it, as a effect of Global Warming. The Man section details the myriad responses (or lack thereof) to the situation globally. I can really say that I’m more incented to individually modify my energy consumption habits in light of my better fully understanding of how regional action can impact international reaction.
