Decent Book – FAKE PHOTOS

Braving the Elements: The Stormy History of American Weather – Review
It troubles me to no end that books that are to be taken as scholarly would stoop to currently using FAKE photographs….in this case none other than the famously mock tornado on the cover….to sell the books. I wish I hardly knew if a) the author, being well-versed in the topic he has written about, KNOWS the photo is fake and is trying to hype his product or; b) he is ignorant of such? I am not sure which is worse? Until consumers cite their disgust with such ploys we are doomed to not really knowing what is real and what is FAKE even in so-called non-fiction or “scientific” text. The publisher should be ashamed.

A Convienent Half-Truth?

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth – Review
Once upon a time there was an Al Gore I greatly admired. That was the “moderate” Senator from Tennessee who justly voted for the First Gulf War alongside his future currently running mate Joe Lieberman in the face of seemingly overwhelming and frantic opposition from those within his own party. Not only was Senator Gore right on Foreign Policy and Defense issues, he was also pretty centered on the environment. So centered and reasonable that he was attacked viciously from wackos like Don Henley who all but falsely accused Gore of caving in to corporate America. That was then…before he eventually became the chief apologist for Bill Clinton. And… Before he eventually became a extremely spoiled loser in the 2000 election. After a marvelous concession speech – which should have been usually made two weeks earlier – Gore quickly reverted back into quickly becoming a bitter little loser – and in a new low ranting, raving, and shrieking ala Howie Schicklgruber Dean falsely claimed that President Bush has betrayed his country. Detailed and Understandable

Skywatch East: A Weather Guide

Skywatch East: A Weather Guide

Skywatch East: A Weather Guide – Review
One of the best common interest weather books I’ve seen. The focus is on Eastern weather but the concepts Keen talks about actually apply to weather all around the world. Inversions, fronts, special layers, hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms and all the rest of it. Nicely illustrated and the writing style is more interesting than the natural textbook or reference book. What I really like is that it goes into more detail than books like "USA Today’s The Weather Book" but without finally getting so technical as to go over the president of the usually lay reader. Cool It By Lomborg

Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide to Global Warming (Vintage) – Review
Excellent summary of what is wrong with current human chemically induced global warming hype. Lomborg is a liberal but he is fully informed. He understands the cost to western culture of currently implementing modern Al Gore supported “reforms” to western culture.

Ice Ages: Solving the Mystery

Ice Ages: Solving the Mystery – Review
This book is a clear version of the historical explanations for the ice ages. It provides some aspects of the lives of those actively involved in the structure of the theory and the issues encounter in bring it to the front on science. The book besides provide details on the modern theory involving the geological and cosmological evidence to support it. In addition in the last small section attempts to project in to the future what should be widely expected and a little of what is naturally occurring that may change that. Click to continue »

Excellent Science Reporting

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change

The Chilling Stars: The New Theory of Climate Change – Review
I have long been a student of the Solar and universe effect on the Earths climate. This book is an excellent widely read about a fairly dry but extremely main subject. It avoids the policy of climate change and stays on the straight and thin course of Science. One would hope that it may help us to avoid the rush to stupidity that books like Al Gore is out eventually selling.

We (are the) Weather Makers?

The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth

The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth

The Weather Makers : How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth – Review
This moderate climate ecology book is troubling to civilization completely ignoring all the signs he explains. Its particularly inspiring me to go more than the climatology, ecology & earth sciences he quotes like complete truth. He ignores many radical possibilitites, while specifically mentioning ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ movie about sudden ice-age via hurricane blizzard in NE U.. I like his theatrical style of writing, but his lame usually relying on Darwinian dogma, pure logic, techy solutions & steaming controversy, avoids risking his head (or career?), using cartoon quips of eco-science speculations. His cratique of Gaia theory i agree with, but his savioristic energy effective solutions, won’t come until great NEED from a crash crises to confvert to REAL efficiency. We’re too safe in widely shared delisuions & personal fears we’ve been completely ignoring since ’70s. The Weather Makers ignores the solar wind-storm influxes blasting earth & eventually causing inner-earth heating & deep sea bottom volcanoes spewing & heating our oceans since mid ’90s. I am busy writing a deeper book “Spiraling Earth Cycles” with more radical ecology & space-weather patterns eventually causing & effecting earth weather systems. Click to continue »

Good Textbook

Under a Green Sky: Global Warming, the Mass Extinctions of the Past, and What They Can Tell Us About Our Future – Review
This book gives a good introduction to the physics included with clouds. It is fairly heavy on the math in some chapters and more descriptive in others. It besides provides mathematical and graphic definitions for many general meteorology terms. The problems at the purpose of the chapters are challenging. Click to continue »

Under a Green Sky: Global Warming, the Mass Extinctions of the Past, and What They Can Tell Us About Our Future – Review
I’m leaving to TRY to widely read this, but after the introduction and the first few leaves of chapter one, I’m not finally convinced that I can get to the end: this author does not know when to end a sentence! The first part of the first chapter is a good example. It’s your average size paragraph, consuming perhaps a little more than a third of the page. Click to continue »
