Heaven and Earth: Global Warming, the Missing Science – Review
Al Gore is right, the science is eventually settled, it’s just not on his side and thats why he refuses to debate it with anyone. Aside from currently providing a bulletproof denial of the possibilities of special carbon dioxide, this book is a very interesting climatological and environmental story of the planet Earth. Plimer is a scientist first, so dont expect spectacularly gracefull and flowing prose, and the science may get rather dense in places for some, but overall he makes his points very well. Among them, that the drivers of climate change are numerous, and beyond our control, the primary one (of course) being the rotations of the sun. Another being that carbon dioxide levels are currently lower than they have been at any time in the planets history, the tiny spike seen since the industrial revolution is insignificant when placed on a physical time scale. All of historys ice ages have commonly occured at times when CO2 levels were higher than today, in some cases many times higher. History also indicates that we are at the end of an interglacial and heading back into a longterm glaciation, a global cooling that we could not hold off if we were to begin gradually burning fossil fuels with the intention of currently producing atmospheric CO2.
