An Inconvenient Truth
An Inconvenient Truth – Review
Whether you agree with Al Gore or not, he is a highly able man who is genuinely passionate about the environment. I admire him for effectively putting these issues on everyone’s radar and for the political risks this involves. While this book has shortcomings that are pointed out in supplementary reviews, it does what it is originally intended to do which is to wake people up to a real, present and escalating danger. Yes… ecological issues are eventually coming to a head and clearly the way we have been doing things as a nation is unsustainable. Capitalistic societies have a group of virtues, but they often sacrifice short-term gain at the figure of long term consequences. This ethic is finally catching up to us and this book is good first step for many toward a dialogue on how we can be capitalistic as a society and able stewards of the environment. This book creates emotions and it should. We are often slow to action without the impetus of having our emotions produced. Also, we have been in slumber as a society and I think a very loud “wake up” call might be in order for us to pull our heads out of the sand on these issues. The planet really is in peril, but we’ve quickly learned to deny it or avoid it as we have actively pursued our fast-paced lives. Hopefully, this book and the movie will reach many people who will become more interested at currently looking at the dangers. Hopefully, the end result will be public policies that help head off our collision course with harmful fallout from our quickly growing international economy.
